"The Queen Mary continues the hit Salon Series May 4 with a special performance by Sweden's Queen of Swing, Gunhild Carling.  This celebrated, multi-instrumentalist Jazz musician and accompanying band will bring to life the musical era that reigned during the ship’s first decade at sea.  The free concert presented in the Grand Salon is hosted by the Queen Mary as part of the ongoing Salon Series.

Well-known in Europe, Gunhild is famous for playing multiple instruments including trombone, trumpet, and bagpipes and breaking into tap dancing midsong: a talent that placed her third in Sweden’s popular TV4 show, Let’s Dance 2014.  The May 4th performance will be Gunhild’s second visit to the Queen Mary. The first, circa August 2016, is memorialized in Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox versions of “Never Going to Give You Up” and “Material Girl”; both featuring Gunhild and recorded in the Queen Mary’s Observation Bar and Queen’s Salon.

While undoubtedly an impressive one-woman show, Gunhild will be joined by a brilliant line-up of musicians for the Carling & Friends concert at The Queen Mary.  The band includes Daniel Glass on drums, Mark Cally on guitar and Mando Dorame on tenor sax, three members of arguably the most notable swing band of the last 25 years: Royal Crown Revue. Formed in Los Angeles in 1989, the globally recognized band is often credited with birthing the Swing Revival Movement. Dave Post of Swingadelic, and the highly-regarded Jazz pianinst, Carl Sonny Leyland, also join Gunhild Carling for this special evening of vintage sounds and retro-style.  In addition, a few surprise guest musicians will make Gunhild Carling & Friends a memorable concert of Hot Jazz, Swing and Dixieland.
